Aerospace Test Pilot

Test articles for low-cost, rapid-response launch systems are currently being developed.  In Aerospace Test Pilot (ATP), you become the commander of one such possible system — a high-powered booster stage aircraft on a mission to send an expendable rocket payload on its way to Earth orbit! Your flying skills will be tested on a wild ride as you accelerate to Mach 3, pull up at 4 g’s, guide the aircraft to ejection conditions at 200,000 feet and zero-g, deploy the rocket, then land back at your starting point a few minutes later! With its roots in an actual aircraft design and flight profile, ATP is a memorable, one-of-a-kind experience!

Features

  • Highly reliable, standalone operation — no attendant required
  • Uses standard, off-the-shelf PC hardware
  • High throughput (3-5 minutes per flight)
  • Multiple skill levels
  • Multiple viewpoint options, selectable by the pilot
  • Realistic flight characteristics
  • Real-time assistance and flying tips if necessary
  • Cockpit audio effects, including a computer-based co-pilot voice that responds to the pilot's flight performance
  • Optional "Queue-line Visual" add-on draws attention to the exhibit and allows guests to be informed and entertained while waiting their turn to fly

Target Audience

  • A user-selectable skill level makes Aerospace Test Pilot suitable for pilots aged 8 and above

Show Sequence

  • Attract Sequence - continuous loop of graphics and audio; calls visitors' attention to the exhibit. Guest moves joystick to start the show.

  • Training Sequence - hosted by "Roger," this short set of audio-visual screens is the "pre-flight briefing" that teaches the basics of flying the Aerospace Test Pilot flight profile

  • Flight Sequence - the actual hands-on flight phase. After deployment of the cargo rocket, the sim transitions to final landing approach with additional short coaching from "Roger."

  • Wrap-up Sequence - "Roger" delivers a light-hearted instant replay and assessment of the flight. The show then returns to the Attract sequence.
