In addition to off-the-shelf products, BSL also creates custom simulations based on customer-unique requirements. BSL can combine high-fidelity system, physics, and dynamic models with high-quality graphics, sound, and user interfaces to build standalone or networked simulations for data analysis, product prototyping, demonstrations, etc.
As an example, BSL developed a five-minute marketing and prototype simulation of the RASCSL aircraft for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) technology conference in 2004. RASCAL was a proposed project that incorporated next-generation and propulsion technologies to allow rapid response, quick turnaround, and low-cost access to earth orbit for small payloads.
BSL's simulation combined a front-end multimedia presentation of the RASCAL capabilities and targeted mission, with a three minute "hands-on" simulation. The interactive portion incorporated actual RASCAL flight data and handling characteristics with 3D graphics and audio, allowing the "pilot" to fly the RASCAL mission from payload pre-deploy through landing of the RASCAL aircraft.
